Trump says ‘no longer feel obligated to think only of peace’ after Nobel Prize snub

The Norwegian Prime Minister’s office did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Donald TrumpAfter one year, the balance sheet of Trump 2.0 does not show a partnership in steep decline, nor one enjoying effortless growth. Instead, it reflects a relationship that has become more hard-edged and realistic

US President Donald Trump has told Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre that he no longer feels an “obligation to think purely of peace” after the Norwegian Nobel Committee did not award him the Nobel Peace Prize, according to a letter seen by Reuters. In the letter, Trump also reiterated his demand for control of Greenland.

“Considering your Country decided not ‌to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America,” Trump wrote in the letter.

Stoere said in a statement that Trump’s letter was in response to ‍a brief message to a letter he had written along with Finnish President Alexander Stubb, opposing the US President’s decision to impose tariffs on European allies over their refusal to let the US take control of Greenland.

Adamant about his takeover plans, the US President slapped 10 per cent duty on eight of Washington’s NATO allies who had sent a small batch of troops to the Arctic territory to stand in solidarity with Denmark, which controls the region.

Støre said he repeatedly explained to the US President that it is an independent committee that awards the Nobel Peace Prize. Trump had asserted that he deserved the award, which was awarded to ‌Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado last year. Machado later gave her medal to Trump during a meeting at the White House last week.

This also comes in the backdrop of Trump sending invitations to world leaders to be members of his Board of Peace, which he aims to establish as a “new international organization and transitional governing administration” akin to the United Nations and its Security Council. The board was formed on January 15 as part of Trump’s 20-point peace plan for Gaza.
