Months after he was banned from entering his home constituency Siwan ahead of the Bihar Assembly elections, controversial RJD MP Mohammad Shahabuddin is in the news again.
Siwan District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Mal today issued an arrest warrant against Shahabuddin for alleged criminal activities after February 18—the day Mal’s predecessor C K Anil ordered the MP’s externment for six months.
Mal ordered Siwan SP Ratn Sanjay to produce Shahabuddin in his court on or before July 1, following the MP’s failure to appear before it despite summons.
Shahabuddin, meanwhile, said that he would challenge the warrant in a higher court. ‘‘The Siwan DM asking the SP to present me in his court on or before July 1 is a violation of the special privileges enjoyed by elected representatives. I will challenge the order in the higher court,” he said.
