Noted actress Shabana Azmi on Wednesday deposed before special sessions judge Roshan S Dalvi in prosecution of a Children Films Society of India CFSI official caught while taking bribe in 1990. During her tenure as the chairperson of CFSI, one of the public relations officers, Shridhar Sharma, was held while accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from a film producer. The operation was carried out by anti-corruption wing of the CBI. Shabana, as the head of the central government institutions, had permitted the CBI to prosecute Sharma after which he was prosecuted. Accompanied by a Central Bureau of Investigation CBI advocate Shabana appeared in the court at around 12 pm and was there till the end of the day. She deposed before the court in capacity of chairperson of the Children Films Society of India CFSI for 1990-91.

Lifer for two Sessions Judge Y N Athalye today sentenced Mohammed Sharif and Shahjahan Ansari to life imprisonment for murdering their friend Mukhtar Sheikh three years back. On December 28, 1994 Sheikh had refused to lend money to Sharif and Ansari upon which the duo attacked him with swords and sticks. The incident took place in Jagruti Nagar slums, Nehru Nagar, Kurla E. The two were immediate arrested by the Nehru Nagar police. The case was expedited by the Bombay High Court.Diwali festn The City Civil and Sessions Court today closed for Diwali vacations and reopen on November 3, 1997. Since the lawyers would not meet the reopening, they celebrated the festival today and wished each other a happy Diwali.
