The Solan police, in a raid at a hotel on the Shimla-Kalka National Highway yesterday night, busted a sex racket involving some businessmen and five girls, who had been staying in the hotel. As many as 12 persons were arrested, including the five girls. All the accused were produced in the court this afternoon and sent in two-day police remand.

Solan Superintendent of Police S.P.S. Verma told The Indian Express over phone that the arrested accused include a Delhi businessman, Mahesh Gupta, who appears to be the kingpin and had been frequently hiring girls for flesh trade in this hotel.

He said a raiding party led by Parwanoo DSP Ramesh Pathania and two SHOs had acted on a tip-off. Accompanied by mediapersons, the raiding party raided Hotel Capcon near Kumarhatti and found the girls in objectionable circumstances with their clients. All the girls belong to Delhi. He said the police was looking for the hotel manager, who managed to flee.

A case under Sections 3 and 5 of the Immoral Trafficking Act has been registered.
