BAUMMUNICH, SEPT 28: US Open champion Serena Williams crushed Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario in the opening match of the Grand Slam Cup today to earn a spot in the semifinals of the world8217;s richest tournament.

The 18-year-old American, ranked fourth in the world, dominated the match and won by a lopsided 6-3 6-1 in a mere 53 minutes at Munich8217;s Olympic arena.

Williams got off to a blazing start, winning the first four games to take a commanding lead over the Spaniard.

Sanchez-Vicario rallied to win the next three games before Williams turned on the heat again to win 6-3.

Firing a blistering serve that reached speeds of up to 180kph Williams showed no mercy in the second set and raced into a 5-0 lead before closing it out 6-1.

8220;I wasn8217;t really focused in the first set,8221; said Williams, who is seeded third in the 6.7 million tournament that pits the top performers in the season8217;s four Grand slam tournaments against each other.
