MUMBAI, Sept 25: St Stanislaus Bandra, more famous for their hockey exploits, surprisingly captured their third football crown of the season. They had earlier bagged the under-16 and under-12 titles and today they claimed the under-14 honours, when they defeated St Francis D8217;Assisi Borivli 1-0 in the Inter-School tournament, sponsored by Colgate Palmolive, at the MSSA-Castrol Schools Sports Centre, Azad Maidan.

The all-important goal was notched by Jonathan Fernandes. He neatly headed home the ball following a flag-kick by Yohan Pereira early in the seventh minute.

St Stanislaus were the better side right through the 50-minute encounter. Their forwards, inspired by striker Yohan Pereira, showed better understanding and their defence was hardly tested. They had a couple of more chances but their forwards missed the mark narrowly.

This was the third appearance in the final for D8217;Assisi, too. But they finished runners-up again. Coach John Alphonso, formerly of Tatas, and serving the instituition for 20years, said he just couldn8217;t understand as to why his boys played so poorly in all the finals.
