Scuffle between rival trade unions

A leader of the Municipal Mazdoor Union was beaten up by members of the rival Swabhiman Mazdoor Union for allegedly exhorting workers not to join the union.

A leader of the Municipal Mazdoor Union was beaten up by members of the rival Swabhiman Mazdoor Union for allegedly exhorting workers not to join the union.

Ganesh Rathod 42 was accosted by seven workers of the Swabhiman Mazdoor Union at the BMC office in G/1 ward at NM Joshi Marg at 2:00 pm on Monday.

The workers came to meet Rathod and wanted to know why he was discouraging people from joining their union. A scuffle son ensued among the workers and Rathod.

The NM Joshi police have registered a case of assault and have arrested six workers identified as- Manoj Solanki 35, Raju Maru35, Lalji Solanki 48, Vishal Mehila 26, Rajkumar Shishupal 27 and Ganesh Bedekar 24.

8220;Swabhimaan Union was giving out recruitment forms when they heard that Rathod was discouraging people from joining the union. This angered the workers and they accosted him,8221; said B Tajne senior police Inspector of NM Joshi Marg.

8220;The six accused have been sent to court to obtain a remand,8221; he added.
