The National Science day is celebrated every year on February 28. This is in honour of Dr C V Raman, an Indian physicist who discovered the Raman effect, a phenomenon of scattered light rays. It was he who founded the Indian Institute of Science at Bangalore. For his commendable achievement he was awarded the Nobel prize in 1930, the Bharat Ratna in 1954 and the Lenin Peace Prize in 1958.The inquisitive and diligent budding scientist of amche Pune are also no less and are impatiently looking forward to discover what this Science Day has in store for them. And keeping their hopes intact, is the Inter University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) which promises them a real sci-tech time today and tomorrow. An Interschool Science Project Competition will be held. The exhibits will be displayed to public on February 27 and 28.A host of competitions, including drawing and essay competition is being organised. A science quiz will also be conducted. All these events will take place on February 27 from 9:00 am. Contact your school for more details. There will be interesting lectures and demonstration by Professor Partha Ghosh. February 28 will be the open day celebrations, when the public will be allowed to visit the IUCAA from 11.00 am onward. The N.C. Rana trophy will be given away to the school which performs best in all events taken together.Besides this, the Indian Meteorological Department office at Shivajinagar is also celebrating the Science Day on February 28. An exhibition and informative film show have been organised. This will be open to the public from 11 am to 5 pm.
