Chennai, March 10: The revised fixtures for the Bharat Petroleum-sponsored National Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy will be announced here on March 13, according to All-India Football Federation (AIFF) president Priyaranjandas Munshi.

Talking to newsmen after finalising the sponsorship details with Bharat Petroleum limited here, he said Bengal had asked for a minor alteration in the quarter-final league into which they have been directly seeded along with three other semi-finalists last year.

This has been conceded as the defending champions wanted to give their star players time to be back in the squad after playing in the Super Cup matches after the National Football League.

Kerala had also come up with a similar request as some of their players were playing for the professional club FC Kochin in the National League, he added.

Bengal are scheduled to play in the quarter-final league here from March 26. Munshi also announced that during the National Championship at Chennai, the AIFF would also conduct a workshop to decide on a fixed football calender mainly for Federation Cup, National League and other international participation for the senior team like the pre-Olympic or the Nehru Cup so as to attract sponsors from corporate world.

He reiterated that the professional league was yet to crystallise on the lines of that in England or Germany where it had taken some years for the concept to harden.
