
NEW DELHI, November 18: Powered by a stroke-filled and breezy 70 by opener sandeep Chawla and a fine spell of left-arm spin bowling by Chetan Sharma (3 for 21), Salwan Boys School beat Vikas Puri School by 54 runs in the final to win the Pepsi Youth Series Cup for inter-schools at Gyan Bharati School, Saket here today.
Put in to bat, Salwan Boys made 230 for six in the stipulated 40 overs, thanks to a 86-run opening wicket stand in 20 overs between Sandeep Chawla and Karun Jethi (44). Chawla was concerned in a 47-run partnership with Joginder for the second wicket. Sanjay rawat and Manish Sharma claimed two wickets apiece.
Vikas Puri School made a flying start with openers Rajinder Bisht and Sanjay Rawat (39 off 55 balls) putting on 39 in five overs. But with the introduction of left-arm spinner Chetan Sharma, they lost wickets at regular intervals and managed only 176 for nine.
Pradeep Chawla, Dilip TT and Chetan Sharma were declared man of the series, best batsman and best bowler, respectively.
