June 23: The Crystal Room, at Taj wore a bridal look on Monday night, as the Madhavanis held a reception to celebrate the recent wedding of their son Nikesh to Divya Motwani. The wedding took place a week before in the bride8217;s hometown, Hong Kong.

The reception here saw a complete celeb turnout. Nikesh8217;s aunt Mumtaz wife of Mayur Madhvani turned up in a tiger print saree. Keeping her company was Randhir Kapoor and his mother Krishna. Among the others who were present were Vinod and Kavita Khanna, Ajit Kerker and Sorabji Godrej.

The Madhvanis made their wealth in the diamond trade in Uganda but left for London after the Idi Amin regime threw out the foreigners. They have now regained their house in Uganda. The diamond that seemed to dazzle the most at the reception was Mumtaz 8212; who seemed to receive more attention than the bride.

For the masses

Group Beautiful, the people who opened the exclusive shop Beautiful Boulevard, have now launched a more affordable range of jewellery called Dagina. The prices of these will start at Rs 2,000, for a diamond studded locket. The designs have been inspired by both Europe and the Orient.

Unveiling the new collection, which will be available in Beautiful Boulevard and Shopper8217;s Stop, was Anna Bredmeyer, the company8217;s official ambassadress, looking slimmer than ever before.

Among those who came to visit the opening ceremony was Art and Culture minister Pramod Navalkar.

Video vibe

Asha Bhosale is all set with a new music video, which was shot over the weekend. Like all music videos nowadays, it will feature two models, only this time they have paired a well established model with a newcomer on the scene.

Silver bells

The Taj was once again the centre of attention on Wednesday night as Premier automobile8217;s Chakor and Champa Doshi celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary there. Among those who came to congratulate the couple were Amitabh and Jaya Bachchan with daughter and son in-law Shweta and Nikhil Nanda.

Other Bollywood stars present included Randhir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Vinod and Kavita Khanna. The Khannas are related to the hosts. Among others seen enjoying the bubbly and the delightful dinner, which included smoked salmon, caviar and lobster, were was Anil and Tina Ambani and HDFC8217;s Deepak Parikh.

The 1900s, which seemed to be losing its edge, was bursting at the seams on Saturday night. It was also the place for model couples to be in, as two supermodels could be seen dancing the night away with their beaus. There was Anupama Verma with Bickram Saluja and Sabah Khalili and her fiance Kamlesh Shah lending the place with a bit of oomph.

While it was the 1900s that was the happening place in town, in the 8216;burbs over 600 people turned out at the Wave, the Horizon for a champagne nite. Vishal Sharma, owner of the hotel held a bubbly bash there.

China calling

Ambassador8217;s Pearl of the Orient is having a Dim Sum festival to coincide with the hand-over of Hong Kong. Dim Sum is a Chinese delicacy, served in bamboo baskets and normally eaten at tea-time. These steamed or fried dumplings are very popular in both the UK and the USA for leisurely lunches.The food should be very authentic as chef Chu Tai Sin has been flown down from Hong Kong especially for the occasion.

And finally8230;We all heard about Lisa Ray8217;s recent entry into the world of art and how she started the exhibition with expensive white wine and live music. It seems though that it is not only the expensive things in life that Lisa enjoys. As she was recently spotted in Churchgate at Samrat, a thali joint enjoying simple desi food.

And as much as she enjoyed the food, the waiters enjoyed having her there in a white strappy dress lending a touch of glamour to the place.
