The Great Indian Rock Concert comes to the city. Participating band Zodiac regales Puneites with alternative and progressive rock.

It was just a fortnight back they strummed their guitars to set ablaze the Andheri stadium in Mumbai. Now the quartet had Puneites swinging to their tunes when they belted originals as well as covers from alternative and progressive rock. As the great Indian rock concert kick-started in Pune with the band Zodiac the rock-o-mania for the headbangers just got the right start.

With two guitarists, a vocalist and a percussionist, Zodiac enthralled the audience with seven of its originals. The numbers based on the complex urban life and the never-ending financial crisis ignited the audience with craving for more. Weaving seamless transition between two numbers proving that they not only could coexist but also thrive off each other the band created a riveting atmosphere sweeping the audience off its feet. Also messing up the originals with covers from Incubus and Stonetemple Pilots created frenzy amongst the audience.

8220;Messing up covers and originals is something very characteristic to our band. We do that for all our performances,8221; Says Anjo John, base guitarist, Zodiac. The band that was all praises for the rock lovers in the city says, 8220; The rock lovers here know how to appreciate slow, alternative and progressive rock, which is not the case in other cities. In Mumbai for instance we have the audience going mad over metal and slow rock and even progressive for that matter are not taken that well.8221;

Unlike the I-love-metal-audience characteristic to Mumbai rock lovers the Pune rock aficionados who savour on every bit of rock the alternative or progressive music of Zodiac connected them with an ever-building call and response with the audience.

Straying away from the norm of heavy metal, and vindictive acidic lyrics, they enamoured the crowd with the happily pretentious strain of progressive rock, which went for the baroque in symphonic suites, as the guitar got louder with every strum and the percussion harder with every thump.

8220;We love Incubus band and their style inspires us a lot. Also after experimenting with other sub genres of rock we have settled down on progressive or alternative because we think it does justice to the spirit of rock and gives us a balanced feel. It isn8217;t on extremes,8221; says Aniket Mangrulkar who idolises Brandon Boyd the vocalist of Incubus.
