CHANDIGARH, June 1: The city police have arrested a retired Army officer on the charge of forcibly abducting a resident of Sector 49, with the help of two other men, and taking him away to a village in Kharar.

Lt Col Amrik Singh Sahota Retd, a resident of Packi Rurki village, had reportedly kidnapped Ram Singh, employed at a dairy in Sector 49. The victim8217;s brother, in a complaint to the police on Saturday, said that Sahota along with two others came to the dairy in a jeep PB-65-1818, beat up his brother and abducted him.

The police have registered a case of abduction. A police party went to the accused8217;s house and he was arrested last night, an official said.He was produced before Judicial Magistrate I Class A.K. Bishnoi today and remanded to judicial custody till June 12.
