Visakhapatnam, Oct 26: Rest OF India made a winning start to the four-match kabaddi series against Thailand by trouncing the visitors 48-34 in the first match at the Port Diamond Jubilee Stadium today.
The visitors, who are here in preparation for the forthcoming Asian Games, shone in patches. Though their riding needs to be improved, their well-knit defence posed a few problems for the hosts in the first-half.
The hosts clearly undermined the opposition and paid the penalty. At the breather, India could manage just a two-point lead, 21-19. However, they made amends to the game-plan and held a firm control over the proceedings in the later part of the match.
For Thailand, Sathit Suanjan and Nivech Tunsomask excelled in riding while T Kochasa and Wichan defended well.
V Srinivas Rao, who represents Major Ports, scored the crucial lona in the early second-half and from there, Rest never looked back. Palani of Tamil Nadu also excelled in riding while captain Trinatha Rao and Srinu were the backbone inthe defence.
