KHARAR, MAY 30: The residents of Ram Bagh Colony in Ward-5 have asked the state government to provide basic civic amenities to their colony.

In a memorandum submitted to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal at Niholka village near here on Saturday evening, they said that at present, there are no proper arrangements for drinking water supply, sewerage, street lights and the cleanliness of streets and drains in their colony.

The memorandum was signed by about 50 residents, including Sham Lal, Tarsem Chand Sharma, Gian Singh, Charan Singh and Bawa Singh. They said that in the absence of drinking water supply, the residents were forced to drink contaminated water from hand pumps, which had been declared unfit for human consumption.

They accused the Kharar Municipal Council authorities as well as the district administration of not fulfilling their demands for many years. Colony resident Sham Lal, who handed over the memorandum to the Chief Minister, said that Badal had promised to fulfill their genuine demands in the near future.
