Shimla: The state body of the National Students Union of India NSUI seems to be heading towards a deeper crisis, with 16 functionaries loyal to NSUI president Atul Sharma, opposing the demand for his removal from the post. The signatories, who included some vice-presidents and general secretaries described the demand for Sharma8217;s removal as unjustified, unreasonable and motivated. They described the demand for the president8217;s removal as arbitrary. The functionaries praised Sharma for the work he had done for the organisation.

Shimla: The newly elected president of the Beopar Mandal, Shimla, today announced the formation of the executive, appointing three vice-presidents and two joint secretaries. The nominated functionaries are Deepak Sharma, Suram Singh Thakur and Naresh Kandhari, vice-presidents; Ashok Kukreja and Vinay Sood, joint secretaries; Sudarshan Azad and Himanshu Sharda, assistant secretaries and Suresh Karol, press secretary.

Patiala: A.K. Kapila and Bhag Singh have been elected president and secretary respectively of Diploma Engineers Association of Public Works Department Bridges and Roads, circle number one, Patiala.

Crime
Hoshiarpur: The Bulhowal police have nabbed an accused in a murder case, Gurpartap Singh, resident of Gobindgarh, Jalandhar, and recovered a stolen Maruti car no. PB-07-B-9292 from him. Gurpartap Singh was in Jalandhar jail in connection with the murder of Rakesh Kumar, son of a brick-kiln owner. On the pretext of illness, he got himself admitted to civil hospital from where he fled. On December 19, he allegedly snatched the Maruti car from its owner Dr Sandeep Kharbanda from near Roshan grounds. He was nabbed by SHO Bulhowal during nakabandi.

Una: Prem Pal, a habitual offender was nabbed by the Una police on the night of December 19-20 when he tried to rob a cloth merchant Harjinder Singh. Prem Pal in also believed to be involved in illegal charas transaction in Kullu district. He belongs to Almora district of UP.

According to A.S. Indoria, Additional Superintendent of Police, Una, he was overpowered by the cloth merchant and a country made pistol was also recovered from his possession. Another accomplice Pawan Kumar is absconding and search to trace him was on.
