Chandigarh: The Punjab government has revised the dearness relief to be given to the state government pensioners from 16 per cent to 22 per cent with effect from July 1 last. Announcing this here today, Finance Minister Capt. Kanwaljit Singh said the revision was on the pattern of the Centre.
Dental health fortnight
Patiala: A painting competition and healthy teeth competition was organised here at Mata Kaushalya Hospital as part of the dental health fortnight in which a large number of school children up to Class VIII participated. A dental rally was also organised under the guidance of Chief Medical Officer Dental Dr Jasleen Kaur, in charge, School Health Dental team. The school children were given health talk regarding dental health awareness, common teeth diseases, healthy food habits by Dr Jasleen Kaur. Free dentures and dental treatment is also being provided during the dental health fortnight.
Export inquiries
Chandigarh: Haryana has already received 34 export inquiries to the tune of Rs 62 lakh from abroad and domestic trade inquiries of Rs 2.43 crore during the first five days at the state pavilion in India International Trade Fair IITF 8217;98 in Delhi. An official spokesman said more than two lakh people have already visited the pavilion, prepared with a futuristic vision of industries in the state. The export inquiries were mainly from Mauritius, Nepal, Sri Lanka, China, United Arab Emirates and Bangladesh.
Camps
Patiala: Dr Sukhdip Singh Boparai and his team of doctors from Patiala Eye Hospital will hold a free eye operation camp at Daun Kalan village near here on November 22. Free food, medicines and spectacles will be provided by the Lions Club.
Alumni meet
Ludhiana: A.S. College Alumni Association would honour IGP Chander Shekhar, eminent cardiologist T.S. Kler, noted TV and film personality Ravinder Peepat and former minister Shamsher Singh Dullo with outstanding alumnus of the year award at its second annual re-union to be held at Khanna on November 22. According to Boota Singh, president of the association, BJP Rajya Sabha member Lajpat Rai will be the chief guest while prominent industrialist M.S. Bhogal will preside over. He informed that the number of stipend being given by the association to needy students would be increased from 20 to 50 each year.
Disconnected
Shimla: The telephone connection of the PCC office has been disconnected without any prior notice.Permanent secretary of state Congress Amar Nath Bazwaria said no bill of the party was pending.He regretted even the Union Minister for Communication had issued instructions not to disconnect any telephone of any political party on the eve of elections.
Endeavour
Gurdaspur: A six-member team of doctors, headed by Dr A K Khubchindani of Mumbai8217;s Jaslok Hospital, will examine children of far-flung areas of the district from December 10 to 17. MP Vinod Khanna is funding the team8217;s trip. Civil Surgeon Dr A.S. Sandhu said the team would visit Narat Jaimal Singh on December 1, Dera Baba Nanak on December 12 and 13, Behrampur on December 14 and 15, Dorangla on December 16 and Gharota on December 17. The patients would be given medicines free of cost at the camps.
Power shutdown
Parwanoo: Power supply will remain suspended to Parwanoo and its surrounding areas from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday on account of urgent maintenance work.

Parwanoo: A Bijlee Adalat will be held here on Friday in which written applications and complaints received in division or sub-division offices up to November 19 shall be taken up. Applications received after the date shall be considered only after permission of the presiding officer.
