
Entrance test
Patiala: Entrance test for admission to the two year B.Ed. CC course for the session 1998-2000, which was earlier scheduled for August 30, will now be held on September 27. Stating this here today, Dr J. S. Brar, Head of correspondence , said that intimation has been sent to all the eligible candidates about the new date through registered post. He said the centres of examination and the scheduled paper timings will remain the same.

Patiala: A UGC team is visiting Punjabi University, Patiala, to provide financial assistance to the colleges affiliated with Punjabi university, according to Dr Balkar Singh, Dean Colleges of Punjabi University. The principals who could not meet the team earlier for financial grants may contact the UGC team at Chandigarh on September 15.
Admission
Patiala: The Punjabi University has extended the date of admissions to its Arts and Science colleges affiliated to it till September 21, with late fee of Rs 300, a university press release said here today.
Rape
Batala: Kuldip Kaur, 17, a resident of Sukkerpura here, was allegedly raped by Vijay Kumar, a resident of Bhandhar Mohalla. The accused took the victim to a motor garage on Jalandhar road by befooling her that her aunt wanted to meet her. The police have registered a case under Sections 363, 366, 342, 376 and 506 of the IPC.
Movement
Moga: The All India Sikh Students Federation has decided to launch a mass movement against drugs from September 13 to mark the 54th birth anniversary of the AISSF at Moga. Stating this here today, Harminder Singh Gill, president, AISSF, said the mass movement against drugs would be dedicated to the 300th birth anniversary of Khalsa. The federation will spread their message by holding rallies, public meetings, camps and seminars in every block of Assembly constituency.

Moga: Justice Al Bahri, president Punjab state Consumers8217; Redressal Commission on Thursday visited Muktsar and Moga districts and inspected the district Consumers8217; Disputes Redressal Forums. While inspecting the consumer forums at Muktsar and Moga, Justice Bahri directed the presidents of the district forum to provide justice to the consumers free of cost and and asked them to make the entire procedure less cumbersome.
Recruits
Hoshiarpur: As many as 219 recruits today passed out of the Police Recruiting Training Centre at Jahan Khelan. Punjab Police Academy Joint Director Chander Shekhar took the salute during the passing out parade, held to mark the occasion. Centre Commandant H. S. Maan said the recruits of the 214 batch were trained in handling latest weapons and unarmed combat. Constable Sarwan Singh was declared the best all-round recruit in the course.

Phagwara: The Hindu Shiv Sena has threatened to launch a statewide agitation, if the Badal Government did not ban the People8217;s Commission in the state. Talking to mediapersons here today, Sena president Surinder Kumar Billa sought the immediate arrest of Justice Kuldip Singh, alleging that he wanted to vitiate the peaceful atmosphere of the state. He said he had written a letter to the Prime Minister asking him to ban the People8217;s panel.

Abohar: Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal will preside over a special function being held here on September 13 to commemorate the 26th death anniversary of Swami Keshvnand, who played a pivotal role in the literacy campaign in the area.
