Book exhibition- Mymarathi by Akshardhara offers a wide range of Marathi novels, short stories, biographies and reference books

There was a time when Marathi books did not need marketing and copies used to be booked much before the release. Today, however, the scenario is different. Sharing a small section in mega bookstores, Marathi is no more the only language of books but just a name given to a corner.

To promote Marathi books, Akshardhara has organised a month long Marathi book fair named Mymarathi at Atre Sabhagriha, Bajirao road. The exhibition in its 14th year is the 300th book fair in the state. 8220;Not many people these days read Marathi books. There are authors and publishers. But it is of no use if there are no readers. We have been doing this exhibition with only one motive of promoting quality Marathi books,8221; says Laxman Rathiwadekar, chief manager, Akshardhara.

The exhibition consists of a collection of nearly 1,00,000 books by well-known Marathi authors. To name a few, it includes books by renowned writers such as P K Atre, P L Deshpande, Maruti Chitampalli, Mangesh Padgaonkar and so on. Some of the most favourite biographical books are Idli Arcade ani me by Viththal Kamat of Kamat hotels, Chakwa Chandan by Maruti Chitampalli, Me kasa Jhalo by P K Atre, Wise and Otherwise by Sudha Murthy and so on. 8220;We are running this exhibition on a no profit no loss basis. In fact for the first time in the history of Marathii books we have also introduced buy one get one free scheme,8221; says Rathiwadekar.

8220;We are developing a database wherein the readers can come up with their own ideas about how Marathi literature can be promoted. We have introduced a form in which they can write about what kind of topics can be handled by Marathi authors, what should be the ideal prices of Marathi books ,8221; says Rathiwadekar. For all the book lovers this is a must visit.
