CHANDIGARH, January 28: Ranbir Mahendra, son of Chief Minister Bansi Lal, who is Congress candidate for Bhiwani, was among 110-odd candidates who filed their nomination papers for the Lok Sabha elections in Haryana on the last day today. Ranbir is contesting against his younger brother Surinder Singh, who is HVP candidate, and Ajay Chautala of the Haryana Lok Dal (R). Surinder Singh was a member of the dissolved Lok Sabha.

Others who filed their papers were Kuldeep Sharma and his father Chiranji Lal Sharma, both of the Congress, for Kurukshetra; Khurshid Ahmed, also of the Congress, and Ram Chander Bainda of the BJP for Faridabad.

Most others who filed nominations today were Independents. Among them was former MP Avtar Singh Bhadana, who was denied the Congress ticket for Faridabad. Scrutiny of papers will take place tomorrow and withdrawals will be allowed till January 31.

In all, 199 candidates have filed nominations for the 10 constituencies. Sixteen candidates have filed papers for Ambala (SC), 20each for Kurukshetra and Karnal, 19 for Sonipat, 23 for Rohtak, 24 for Faridabad, 10 WïFor the lone Vidhan Sabha by-election in Fatehabad, a total of 17 candidates have filed their nominations. They include Haryana Lok Dal (R) candidate Sampat Singh, HVP candidate Jarnail Kaur and Congress candidate Ram Raj Mehta. Most others are independents.
