No coach is in sight yet for Team India, and no announcement regarding this is likely from the BCCI before the Pakistan series, but there is a possibility of the Board appointing an assistant coach.
If whispers down the BCCI corridors are anything to go by, India have still a long way to go before zeroing in on one who can replace Greg Chappell. The 15-odd applications received have all been turned down. Instead, the Board has now set its sight on fresh faces, yet to be approached.
But it looks more and more likely that the post of assistant coach could be handed over to current team manager Lalchand Rajput. The former cricketer has been with the team from the Twenty20 triumph and is now being tipped for a two-year contract.
Rajput8217;s job, until now, had been in the capacity of the chief coach at the National Cricket Academy, a post now handed over to Dav Whatmore. Having been relieved from that, the Board wants to give Rajput the responsibility of helping the senior coach when selected.
