VADODARA, May 11: Senior senate member Jung Bahadur Rajput has alleged irregularities in the purchase of computers at the M S University during the last few years, and says he will seek an inquiry when Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane returns after his holiday.

Rajput told reporters on Tuesday that there were discrepancies in the purchase of computers, particularly at the Hansa Mehta Library, University Press, and Archeology Departments. He claimed he had records to suggest that the purchases were inconsistent with orders passed by the computer purchase committee and ratified by the Syndicate.

Asked about his hurling of abuses at the Senate meeting last week, Rajput said he had already tendered an unconditional apology to the Vice-Chancellor, Pro Vice-chancellor Deepak Kumar De, and in-charge Registrar N M Pandya. Reacting to the anti-Kane move launched by a section of Syndicate members, Rajput said 8220;I plan to mobilise a force that would counter the forces working on the V-C removal campaign.8221;

Rajput claimed that his support included those who were not politically affiliated with any group. 8220;This force would include the teachers and the students who actually matter to the university,8221; added Rajput. They would primarily be teachers from the Faculty of Technology and Engineering, and include persons from the Faculty of Commerce.

But senior senate members opine that though Rajput has been on the Senate for a long time and won four elections, his contribution to the university has been negligible and he hasn8217;t been a very popular teacher either.

Rajput has also decided to urge the state government to remove the 15 nominees of the previous government. He said, 8220;This will enable the Senate to function properly and discuss business.8221;

Meanwhile, one of the members of the committee which cleared the computer purchases has refuted all allegations levelled by Rajput, saying that all purchases were made as per set procedures. There was no question of irregularities since prominent people like the Deans of Management and Technology faculties were on the committee, he said.
