Early this month when Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeswar paved an exit route for BSP supremo Mayawati by refusing to accord sanction for prosecution in the Rs 175 crore Taj Heritage corridor case, many questions were left unanswered. But today an application was filed in the Supreme Court seeking the Governor8217;s order to be placed as it was alleged to be wrong and unfair.
The application filed by Manzoor Ali Khan comes a day after Mayawati 8220;clarified8221; about her recently acquired wealth. The CM had disclosed her newly acquired movable and immovable properties apart from diamonds and other valuables in an affidavit filed by her.
Khan, through his counsel D K Garg, sought a direction to the Uttar Pradesh Government to produce the copy of the June 5 order of the Governor giving reprieve to the BSP chief and her Cabinet colleague Nasimuddin Siddique.
The governor had refused to grant sanction to prosecute Mayawati on the ground that there was not sufficient evidence against her. The said 8220;opinion8221; had come in for a severe attack as the apex court in its previous directions had observed contrary to what the Governor opined in his detailed order.
The application contended that the order was wholly untenable, absolutely wrong and contrary to the proved circumstance as the apex court had made several observations regarding the alleged illegal acts on part of Mayawati in the case which prove beyond doubt that she indulged in unscrupulous means to collect money. 8220;The observations made by the apex court are further proved from the recent affidavit filed by Mayawati disclosing her assets both movable and immovable of more than Rs 52 crore 8230;,8221; it further stated.
