CHANDIGARH, Nov 4: A student of Punjab Engineering College has been rusticated and four others penalised for their alleged involvement in ragging a student.

The principal had ordered an inquiry following a complaint from the father of Sandeep Kumar, a first year student of BE Civil that he was physically and mentally tortured during ragging by some senior students.

The principal ordered BE second year student Kulwant Singh8217;s rustication for a year. Third year students Dinesh Rauniwal and Amit Kaul have been fined Rs 10,000 with a warning and a yellow card. Third year student Gaurav Sachdeva has been fined Rs 5,000 with a warning and yellow card, while first year student Deepak Kumar and third year students Mangesh Kumar Meena and Brahmchand have been penalised Rs 1,000 besides a warning and yellow card each.
