STOCKHOLM, November 5: Patrick Rafter tuned up his game for next week8217;s World Championship with a victory into the second round of the 825,000 Stockholm Open yesterday night, crushing Mikael Tillstrom 6-3, 6-0.

Rafter saved face for leading seeds at the Kungliga Tennis Halle, and brought the Swedish damage count to four defeats on day two of one of the final events of the season.

Earlier, No 2 Carlos Moya was eliminated by Boris Becker 6-4, 6-3. It was the German8217;s first win against the Spaniard in three attempts, including a first-round upset at this year8217;s Australian Open.

Holland8217;s Jan Siemerink beat qualifier Fredrik Bergh 3-6, 6-1, 6-3 while Magnus Larsson, 26th in the world, dispatched 20-year-old compatriot Fredrik Jonsson 7-5, 7-5.

Henrik Holm, a former ballboy at the event, went out 6-3, 6-7 7/9, 6-3. Scandinavian veteran Magnus Gustafsson defeated South African Marcos Ondruska 6-2, 6-2 and next faces Briton Tim Henman, the eighth seed. Slovakian Karol Kucera eliminated Frenchman Guillaume Raoux 6-4, 6-3.

Kafelnikov wins

MOSCOW: Top-seeded Yevgeny Kafelnikov of Russia defeated Jonathan Stark of the United States 6-7 5-7, 6-1, 6-3 in a first-round match of the 1,125,00 Kremlin Cup yesterday.

Two more seeded players lost on Tuesday, following the elimination of the fifth, seventh and eighth seeds. Unseeded Jiri Novak of the Czech Republic defeated third-seeded Sergi Brugera of Spain 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Javier Sanchez of Spain downed No 6 Marc Rosset of Switzerland 6-4, 6-7 4-7, 7-6 7-4.

Second-seeded Petr Korda of the Czech Republic beat Jeff Tarango of the United States 4-6, 7-4, 6-3. yesterday, Canadian Daniel Nestor topped Justin Gimelstob of the US 4-6, 6-2, 6-4.
