Ten killed in Valley

SRINAGAR: Unidentified gunmen fired at a Jammu and Kashmir People’s Democratic Party election campaign vehicle at Qazigund, killing an activist and injuring another. A ruling National Conference leader, Ghulam Qadir also escaped a bid on his life in Anantnag district today. Elsewhere in the valley, five militants, were among nine killed in the past 24 hours.

Woman torched

MUMBAI: A woman was burnt to death at Dahisar (E) early on Sunday. One Raju Yadav (27) poured kerosene on Anjali (28) and set her on fire, according to the police controladdding that Yadav was allegedly having an affair with the victim. While she died on the spot, Yadav remains at large. The Dahisar police are investigating the case.

Asphyxiation deaths

CHENNAI: Three persons working in a godown of the Central Warehousing Corporation here died yesterday of asphyxiation after inhaling noxious gas which reportedly leaked out of crates in which some chemicals were stored, police said. Thetrio were arranging the crates when they fell unconscious and were rushed to Government Stanley Hospital where they died late on Saturday night.

Quake in Andaman

NEW DELHI:

A low intensity earthquake was felt at Andaman sea region today, MET office said here. The quake, measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale, was felt at around 9.15 am at the epicentre.
