
Heatwave claims one more
NEW DELHI: Unrelenting heatwave continued to scorch several parts of the country today claiming one more life pushing the toll to 53 with mercury soaring to 46-degree Celsius in Nagpur. A heat-related death was reported last evening in Bahraich district of UP which remained in grip of severe heat. Heatwave persisted in Orissa where 33 people have died of sunstroke so far and scorching weather continued in Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh.
Cop arrested
Jalandhar: Police have arrested an Assistant sub-inspector here for allegedly extorting Rs 23,000 from a man by threatening to implicate him in a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychosomatic Substances NDPS Act. Harbhajan Singh was arrested on the complaint of Jaswant Singh of Deriwal village in adjoining Hoshiarpur district.
