
Oscar winner Kurosawa dies at 88
TOKYO: Japan8217;s most famed director Akira Kurosawa, dubbed the emperor of Japanese cinema for films such as The Seven Samurai and Rashomon, died on Sunday. He was 88. The only director to have won two Oscars for best foreign film, Kurosawa in 1990 received a lifetime achievement award from the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, but modestly said he had not yet earned it.
Sikh labour plea
JALANDHAR: A number of Sikh labourers, who went to Libya for jobs were detained by the Libyan police and asked to withdraw their complaints against a Delhi-based labour recruitment firmi. The affected workers have urged the Jathedar of Akal Takht to summon the proprietors of the labour recruiting firm and ask to explain their conduct.
HP bus mishap
SHIMLA: At least 13 persons were killed and 36 others injured, ten of them seriously, when a HRTC bus plunged into a deep gorge at Gallu on Hindustan-Tibet NationalHighway.
IGNOU course
NEW DELHI: Indira Gandhi National Open University IGNOU in partnership with Commonwealth Secretariat, London will launch a diploma/certificate programme in Youth and Development early next year. The programme would be open to all learners who have cleared the plus two examinations.
