Cabinet nod for new states
NEW DELHI: THE Union cabinet tonight approved proposals for fresh legislations for creation of Uttaranchal, Vananchal and Chattisgarh states after efforts in this direction had run into trouble last year due to legal and political wranglings. The proposals would now go for Presidential approval before being referred to the state assemblies of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Madhya Pradesh, it is officially learnt.

Teachers stir off
MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organisation MFUCTO has called off the indefinite teachers8217; strike which was scheduled to begin tomorrow. The decision was taken after the state government conceded to the demand of the MFUCTO representatives in a six-hour-long meeting at Mantralaya today.
