ED swoop on hawala operator

An ED press note said there was evidence of the money being received for the sale of illegally imported gold, and money laundering against bogus bills.

Following the raid on R K Diamonds, the ED sleuths also raided one premise in Kamathipura. Sevaram Dhanji Patel, also allegedly into hawala business, was arrested. Patel allegedly had indulged in hawala transactions to the tune of at least Rs 1.7 crore. Rs 5.7 lakh were seized from his premises. Managing partner of R K Diamonds, Rakesh Kumar Chaudhary was also arrested though two of his associates, Dinesh Modi and Rohit Modi are yet to be apprehended.

Arrests in Ved Singh8217;s murder

NEW DELHI: Five people have been arrested in connection with the murder of Ved Singh, Samata Party candidate from Nangloi Jat assembly constituency in Delhi, on November 10 in which police have ruled out political motives.

Police said all those arrested belonged to a group which had rivalry with another group operating in the areamainly relating to property issues. While four of them have been identified as Sanjay, Amarjit Singh, Virendra alias Binder and Naresh, all belonging to Mundka village, the fifth one has been identified as Shabir alias Satbir, resident of Nangloi village.

Onion crisis

NEW DELHI: The Delhi Government today said the onion crisis in the capital has abated with the supply at subsidised rates exceeding the demand and decided to reduce its procurement from NAFED accordingly.

In view of the improved situation, Delhi Government decided to procure only 300 metric tonnes MT of onion through NAFED from today instead of 400 MT received earlier.

Jawan hurt

JAMMU: An army jawan was injured in exchange of fire between Indian and Pakistani troops across the line of control LoC in Kargil district in Jammu and Kashmir since last evening, a defence spokesman said here today.
