Filmmaker Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar has turned out to be the biggest blockbuster of Hindi cinema in India, leaving behind massive hits like Pathaan, Jawan, Chhaava and several others. While many are hailing the film for its brilliance, Aditya’s wife and actor Yami Gautam had known the quality of the film and the kind of impact it would have on audiences even before the film hit the screens. In an old interaction, Yami had even admitted to desperately wanting to be a part of the project.
Yami wanted to star in Dhurandhar
In an interview that was conducted before Dhurandhar arrived in theatres, Yami spoke about how she wished she were a man just so that she could star in the Ranveer Singh-led film. “When I read his next script, I told him that it was one of those rare moments when I wished I was a guy. The script is so brilliant. It’s such an amazing world,” she had told News18.
However, Yami was quick to clarify that she and Aditya maintain clear personal and professional boundaries and do not influence casting or any other decisions in each other’s projects. “Regardless, I don’t have that expectation. We respect that professional line. I don’t think that line should be blurred. We’re very clear about it,” she had said, adding, “If he feels that somebody else is a better fit for a part that he’s writing, I would be absolutely fine with it. This understanding was there since the very beginning.” Though Yami’s wish to star in Dhurandhar wasn’t fulfilled, she did make it to the credits, where Aditya thanked her.
Yami and Aditya’s love story
Yami and Aditya first met on the sets of his 2019 film Uri: The Surgical Strike. The two fell in love while promoting the film. Yami played a pivotal role in the movie, while Vicky Kaushal was seen in the lead role. The couple tied the knot in 2021 in an intimate ceremony. In May 2024, they became parents to son Vedavid.
Recently, on the Humans of Bombay show, Yami opened up about her love story with Aditya and how the two became friends before falling in love. She said, “During promotions is when we started talking, we became friends and there was ‘oh, I’m going to propose to you’ kind of moment or anything filmy or all those things for me or him All those things that we probably think of…Which was the best thing because even I’m not that kind of person. We just knew that we really want to get married. Our families were extremely aligned and they were really happy for us.”
