PATIALA, May 17: The executive committee of Punjabi University Teachers8217; Association PUTA here met Union Minister Surjit Singh Barnala and apprised him of the latest situation arising out of HRD Ministry8217;s announcement regarding new pay scales of University and College teachers.

The Minister assured the deputation of sympathic consideration of their demands, according to PUTA leaders. The PUTA leaders pressed upon Barnala to use his good offices for raising the retirement age of University teachers to 62 years because of their late entry into the service.

PUTA president B. S. Nanda and secretary Jaswinder Singh said that PUTA has taken a serious notice of anti-teacher activities of about a dozen teachers, who in collaboration with the non-teaching employees, have formed a so called coordination committee and opposed the visit of Surjit Singh Barnala for the University convocation.

The PUTA leadership said that these teachers were harming the interests of university teachers by politicising even academic issues .

on the campus. The PUTA cautioned the faculty members to be aware of selfish designs of this section of teachers.

The PUTA leadership said that this so called coordination committee has no no sanctity because it does not have any approval of elected PUTA.
