I-Day celebrations
The students and teachers of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Southern Command, organised a prabhat pheri on August 13 to mark the closing ceremony of the golden jubilee of the independence. Nearly 200 students of Std XI and 25 teachers participated in the march.

Funds sought for surgery
Mangesh Kathalkar 18, a resident of Ganeshnagar, Thergao, has sought financial assistance to enable him to undergo heart surgery. Cheques should be issued in favour of Poona Chest Hospital, Aundh, Pune-27.

AC coach for Jhelum Express
Central Railway has decided to attach a three-tier airconditioned coach to 1077 Dn-1078 Up Pune-Jammu Tavi-Pune Jhelum Express from September 1.

Besides, 2625 Dn/2626Up Trivandrum-New Delhi-Trivandrum Kerala Express will be attached an additional second class sleeper coach with immediate effect. The 1013 Dn/1014 Up Kurla terminus T Bangalore-Kurla T Express will also be attached a three-tier A/C coach with immediate effect.

Aid for PM8217;s relief fund
The Janseva Sahakari Bank Ltd. has donated Rs. 2.75 lakh towards the Prime Minister8217;s relief Fund. The cooperative bank8217;s chairman Raghunath Kachare presented the cheque to district collector Vijaykumar Gautam recently. The amount was raised by the bank, employees and the board of directors.

Potdar for US
Rukhmini Potdar, an M.Phil. of Gokhale Institute of Economics, has left for USA on a full scholarship by Cornell University, Ithaca, New York, along with a Tata endowment scholarship for a Ph.D. in population studies.
