Spurned man torches lady
Twenty-six-year-old Hemlata Sonavane, a resident of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar slums in Bibwewadi, was allegedly set afire by a neighbour after she turned down his marriage proposal, on Monday morning.

Hemlata, who suffered high degree burns, has been admitted to the Sassoon hospital. The alleged assailant, autorickshaw driver Balu B Kamble 21, has also been hospitalised as he suffered some injuries in the fire.

Acting on a complaint, the Sahakarnagar police have slapped Balu with the charges of attempting to murder Hemlata.

According to the complaint, Balu, who is already married, was cajoling Hemlata in a bid to marry him for the last several days.

Police said Balu, who barged into Hemlata8217;s house early last morning, set her afire when she rejected his proposal. Hemlata was rescued and shifted to the hospital by neighbours who rushed to the spot after hearing her cries for help, they added.
