The Central Board of Direct Taxes has extended the date for submission of income tax returns in Form 2C for the assessment year 1999-2000 up to February 28, 2000. Earlier, this date was extended up to October 31 this year.

The returns in Form No 2C are required to be filed by those persons who reside in one of the specified cities and who fulfill any one of the six economic criteria. The six economic criteria are occupation of immovable property, ownership or lease of of a motor vehicle, subscription to a telephone, incurring of expenditure on foreign travel, holding of credit card and membership of club.

The Central Board of Direct Taxes have also extended up to November 30, 1999, the due date for submission of income tax returns for assessment year 1999-2000 by non-corporate taxpayers, who were required to get their accounts audited and for whom the due date for filing returns of their income is October 31, 1999. Similarly, the due date for getting the accounts audited and for furnishing the same under Section 44AB of the IT Act, 1961 for such non-corporate taxpayers, which is October 31, 1999 for the assessment year 1999-2000, has also been extended up to November 30, 1999.
