Youth selling revolvers in city nabbed
In what is being viewed as a major breakthrough in busting an interstate racket involved in selling firearms and ammunition illegally, the Pune police on Thursday arrested a youth hailing from Madhya Pradesh and recovered three country-made revolvers along with their ammunition from him.

Bharat Singh Bisal Singh Rawat, the 27-year-old resident of Mulgaon village in Morena district of Madhya Pradesh, was arrested in a high drama on busy Shivaji Road during the peak hours of Thursday evening. He was remanded to seven-day police custody after being produced in front of a judicial magistrate first class on Friday afternoon.

The preliminary investigations have revealed that Rawat had been smuggling weapons from Morena and selling them to residents of Pune illegally for quite some time, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Zone I Ajit Patil.

Patil told the newspersons that a team of Pune policemen will leave for Morena tomorrow to investigate suspected involvement of a major gang. Meanwhile, he said, Rawat was being interrogated for further details about his previous arms deals in the city.

The police officials claimed that Rawat8217;s arrest was the outcome of a drive launched by the Pune police on the instance of directives by the Election Commission to curb smuggling of weapons inside the city in the wake of the ensuing parliamentary and assembly elections.
