Convict walks out of hospital
Joseph Peter Fernandes, who was convicted in a murder case and sentenced to life imprisonment, escaped after giving the slip to the sentries escorting him while he was admitted to the Sassoon Hospital on Tuesday morning.

Fernandes was admitted to the hospital after he received a head injury while working at a workshop at Yerawada Jail on Tuesday afternoon. Jail sentries Ravindra Tumma and Rajesh Pol were deployed to keep an eye on him when he walked out of the hospital unnoticed.

Fernandes, who hails from Lucknow was arrested by the Mumbai police in 1984. He was convicted on February 15 and brought to Yerawada Central Prison on February 27. Bund Garden police are searching for him.

Water supply affected
Water supply to several parts of the city including Erandavane, Kothrud and Gokhale Nagar areas will be affected on Friday evening and Saturday morning due to the repairs of the rising main line linking the Parvati Water Works with the SNDT MLR.

A press communique issued by the Pune Municipal Corporation said the residents of Erandavane, Paud Road, Karvenagar, Kothrud, Dahanukar Colony, Gokhale Nagar, Model Colony and Wadarwadi areas will not receive water on Friday evening. Water supply to these areas will be made at low pressure on Saturday morning, it added.

Builder nabbed in firing incident
A 33-year-old builder residing in Sahakarnagar area has been arrested by the Bund Garden police on charges of shooting at one of his acquaintances, also a builder, following a quarrel over financial matters.

Hemant Ashok Bhujbal 32 of Sinhagad Road had a narrow escape as he managed to duck the bullet when Nitin Shivajirao Patil allegedly opened fire at him at a crowded restaurant bang opposite the Central Building on June 29 morning. The arrest was made after Bhujbal lodged an FIR on Tuesday. The awe struck staff and patrons of the restaurant had chosen to remain silent spectators.
