Three held in sodomy case

The three caretakers from the State Government-run Boys Remand Home at Shivajinagar, who had allegedly subjected a 13-year-old inmate to sodomy, were arrested on Monday afternoon.

Ashok Punaji Jadhav 31, Sanjay Ashok Deokule 26 and Parshuram Ganapat Alkute 23, were arrested following a complaint lodged with the Deccan Gymkhana police by the victim on Saturday.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that Jadhav has been working with the Remand Home for 15 years while both Deokule and Alkute for three years.

While the victim8217;s medical check up is still being carried out at the Sassoon hospital, the police have also launched a probe to find out whether any other inmate of the institution was also subjected to sodomy.

Students freed n THE 20 Film and Television Institute of India FTII students who were arrested on Sunday for gheraoing the Governing council members for over four hours, were on Monday released on personal bond of Rs 500 each.

Incidentally, out of a listof 17 arrested students made available to The Indian Express, except for six, the rest have completed their term at the FTII, says Dr Mohan Agashe, director, FTII. These students are not attending classes or paying fees but have been given special sanction to stay on in the hostel to complete their projects, he said.

Agashe informed that out of concern for his students he had sent the superintendent, administration, and the security officer of the institute to bail them out this morning, but the offer was rejected.
