SAS NAGAR, June 23: On the second day of the anti-enchroachment drive launched by Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority PUDA, the enforcement staff today demolished two unthorised structures, a dairy adjacent to Yadvindra Public School and an Atta Chaki on the main road from sector 44 to Phase 7, both in Sector 51 of the township.
The operation, which was supervised by the Estate Officer G.S.Ghuman, started at 12 a.m. and continued for two hours till 2 p.m. The 40-member demolition squad, which included the enforcement staff and the police, was led by SDE Pritam Singh. When Newsline reached he spot, the demolitions were being carried out manually.
G.S. Ghuman said both the dairy and atta chaki had come up illegally on the prime land of PUDA. One site had been earmarked for institutional purposes, while the other was vacant land.
Both the affected persons said they were tenants on the encroached land and did not know that the land belonged to PUDA. The person who collected rent from both the tenants, was the same. When contacted, he denied the charge and said, quot;I have not collected any rents and have nothing to do with the dairy or atta chakhiquot;.
