VADODARA, June 22: Losing patience after often getting contaminated water for the last four years and recently over the last three days, residents of Indrapuri Society on Waghodia Road on Tuesday staged protests before Mayor Bharati Vyas and Deputy Municipal Commissioner General I B Peerzada.

The women-dominated delegation broke earthen pots outside Peerzada8217;s office and also shouted slogans against the Municipal Commissioner,G R Aloria. Aloria was away attending a meeting.

One of the residents, Shahi More, told Express Newsline that life had become really difficult for them. Not only is the water pressure low, the water is also contaminated, she said. 8220;We have to draw water by lowering the tap four feet below the plinth level,8221; another resident said.

Sangita Desai, a homemaker, said they were surprised to see that in Pritamnagar, the society opposite to theirs, water goes up to the third floor. The residents have often suffered from various ailments, she said, adding that their repeated requests to the authorities and councillors had fallen on deaf ears. More alleged that the other day somebody from the VMC stated that the Fire Brigade would supply water only if the society residents paid Rs 75 per house. A resident observed that in the society having 110 houses, the tanker stops at only one place. The delegation was led by Congress councillors, including Kanchanbhai Parmar.

When contacted, Peerzada said the residents have been getting low water pressure apparently because nearby slum-dwellers puncture the water pipelines. Contamination is also likely to be occurring because of this, he said.

He assured that he would look into the matter after having talks with in-charge city engineer B S Trapasia. The delegation had to be taken out of the chamber by the security. Noisy scenes were also witnessed in the Mayor8217;s chamber.

Another delegation complained to the authorities about blockage in the storm water drain near Sawad in Karelibaug. The members complained that the area gets water-logged during monsoon.
