ROOPNAGAR, Feb 18: The supporters of Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee SGPC Chief Gurcharan Singh Tohra, today, resolved to boycott the 10 SGPC executive committee members, who had quot;unceremoniously suspendedquot; Akal Takht Chief Bhai Ranjit Singh.
At a meeting held at Gurdwara Singh Sabha here this afternoon, Tohra loyalists, including Lok Sabha Member Prem Singh Chandumajra, Punjab Human Rights Organisation leader Ajit Singh Bains and district Akali Dal leaders Ujagar Singh Badali and Jagjit Singh Rattangarh unanimously decided to boycott Giani Puran Singh, who has been appointed Acting Jathedar of the Akal Takht by pro-Badal members of the executive committee of the SGPC. In a resolution adopted at the meeting, Tohra loyalists reposed their faith in the quot;suspendedquot; Jathedar and refused to recognise Giani Puran Singh as the chief of the highest temporal seat of the Sikhs.
The speakers also condemned quot;police actionquot; at the Golden Temple complex prior to the quot;suspensionquot; of Bhai Ranjit Singh, in no uncertain terms. The speakers demanded that all quot;illegal detenuesquot; be released before the Khalsa tercentenary celebrations in April this year.
No mediapersons was invited to today8217;s meeting, where the quot;Sikh Agendaquot; of Bhai Ranjit Singh was also justified.
Ajit Singh Bains, reminded that all disputes with the Central Government in the past were launched from the Akal Takht. He reiterated his support to Bhai Ranjit Singh, who was suspended as the Akal Takht Jathedar by pro-Badal members of the executive committee of the SGPC. He vehemently opposed Bhai Ranjit Singh8217;s quot;suspensionquot; at the quot;behestquot; of the ruling Akali Dal. Later, the participants appointed Ujagar Singh Badali as the convener of the district level Khalsa tercentenary celebrations committee.
