VVS praises young crop of fast men

VVS Laxman said that although India are keen on winning the series 3-0,the teams primary focus will be on playing to the best of their potential

VVS Laxman on Monday said that although India are keen on winning the series 3-0,the teams primary focus will be on playing to the best of their potential. And while there has been plenty of speculation on the nature of the pitch,Laxman said India would only want to concentrate on getting the process right rather than thinking about the result of the third Test at the Wankhede.

Speaking to the media here at the Wankhede Stadium,Laxman also sounded confident that pace spearhead Zaheer Khan was well on his way to full fitness. Excerpts.

On Zaheer Khans injury

He has made progress. I was talking with the physio who has been saying hes probably one week to ten days ahead of where he should be. Zaheer has been really working hard on his fitness. Hes lost a lot of weight since England. Its surely a good sign.

On the Indian pace bowling

Everyone knows the importance of that series and also the importance of Zaheer being there in the side. I am very impressed with the way Umesh Yadav bowled in the last match in Kolkata. Its great to see the kind of fast-bowling potential that we have at the moment. Obviously when Zaheer comes back I think it will be a very formidable pace attack. Its very exciting to see bowlers bowling at more than 140kmph. Its always a good sign for the national side.

On the West Indies batsmen

You saw the way Darren Bravo played in the last match. Kirk Edwards played well against us in Dominica got a century on debut,Shivnarine Chanderpaul obviously has been a match-winner for the West Indies for long. It is unfortunate people are not rating this West Indian side very highly.
