Shiv Sena workers allegedly assaulted a couple who objected to the former entering their home while campaigning for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections on Monday.

“We have arrested two persons on Tuesday morning, while the identification of the others is going on. They will be arrested soon,” said an officer from the MHB police station.

The police have registered a case against 10 members of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena under section 352 (assault), 74 (outraging the modesty of a woman), and other relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 7 pm, when two Shiv Sena members visited the Mitha Ghar area in Dahisar (East) and went inside a couple’s home for campaigning. As the couple objected, asking how the party workers could enter someone’s house, a heated argument ensued between them and escalated into a physical fight. The two party workers allegedly assaulted the house owner. When his wife intervened, they assaulted her also, said the police officer.

The two workers then called other Sena workers. As soon as the house owner came out, they caught him and started kicking and punching him. They also beat him with a stick. A few people recorded the incident on their mobile phones and circulated the videos on social media.
The house owner later approached the police and filed a complaint.
