Pune to host 100th edition of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan

Maharashtra Language Development Minister Uday Samant said at the 99th All India Marathi Literary Conference that all former presidents of the conference would be given an honorarium of Rs 1 lakh.

The 100th edition of the All India Marathi Literary Conference, also known as the Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, will be held in Pune, Milind Joshi, president of the All India Marathi Literature Federation, has announced, adding that a World Literature Conference would be organised in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, next year as part of the centenary celebration.

“There is great curiosity among all of us about the 100th Marathi Sahitya Sammelan. The first conference, then known as the Granthkar Sammelan, was held in Pune in 1878 and was organised by Justice Mahadev Govind Ranade. The 100th Marathi Sahitya Sammelan will be held in Pune, and it will be organised by the Maharashtra Sahitya Parishad,” he said at the closing ceremony of the 99th All India Marathi Literary Conference in Satara on January 4.

Speaking on the occasion, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said, “This city of Satara, sanctified by the footsteps of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, successfully hosted the 99th All India Marathi Literary Conference. Now, the 100th conference should be truly historic. The Government will extend all possible support to ensure this.”

Language Development Minister Uday Samant announced that all former presidents of the conference would be given an honorarium of Rs 1 lakh each in the name of Mahadji Shinde at a meeting to be held during the centenary conference. He also announced a plan to create a fund in the name of noted litterateur G D Madgulkar for the conference.

The centenary conference is expected to mark a historic milestone for Marathi literature, bringing together writers, scholars and cultural enthusiasts from across the country. Organisers said the event would celebrate the rich literary legacy of Marathi while opening new global avenues for dialogue and cultural exchange.
