Terming as remarkable the poll process in Sri Lanka,the US on Thursday refrained from making any comment on the disputes related to the outcome of presidential elections and said it would wait till results are finalised.

8220;I think it8217;s important to recognise that this was the first nationwide election in decades,8221; Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs P J Crowley said,adding that the participation was high,the process was generally peaceful,though there were incidents of violence which the US was very aware of.

8220;I think it is remarkable when you consider what Sri Lanka has come through recently. There is a process for resolving electoral disputes. We8217;re obviously aware that there have been claims of victory and counterclaims,8221; Crowley said.

8220;As far as we know,the Independent Election Commissioner has not ruled yet. So we will wait to see what 8211; and have further comment when the election results are finalised,8221; Crowley said when asked about allegations by opposition candidate Sarath Fonseka.

Meanwhile,US strategic think-tank 8216;Stratfor8217; said the political drama will likely play out over the next several days,but so far it appears that incumbent Mahinda Rajapakse has the means to keep Fonseka isolated and secure his political position.

8220;Though Fonseka has appealed to the High Commission of India for support,New Delhi does not have any desire to involve itself in this internal political imbroglio,especially as it appears that Rajapakse has a solid win.8221;
