Modi summoned by police in IPL case

The Crime Branch wing of the Chennai police have issued summons to suspended IPL comissioner Lalit Modi.

The Crime Branch wing of the Chennai police have issued summons to suspended IPL comissioner Lalit Modi and six other top honchos of the sports management company World Sports Group over alleged criminal misappropriation of funds.

The present summons is to question him about the charges raised by the BCCI in the complaint filed with the Chennai city police commissioner by board secretary N Srinivasan last October. Modi is charged with misappropriation of Rs 470 crore,mainly in alloting media rights and free commercial rights.

All seven persons named in the detailed complaint 8211; which included Modi,the former IPL commissioner; WSG chairman and CEO,Seamus O8217;Brien; COO Andrew Georgiou; its president South Asia,Venu Nair; former head of Sony television which bagged the broadcast rights,Kunal Dasgupta; Harish Krishnamachar and Ajay Verma have been asked to make themselves available by the first week of January,sources in the city police said. Of these,O8217;Brien,Krishnamachar and Verma have been asked to be here on January 3,while the rest were directed to be present themselves on January 5.
