The Great Indian Kapil Show Season 4 viewership witnesses sharp declines; two of the 3 episodes missing from Netflix global ranking

While the show appears to have improved its viewership after the premiere episode, its overall performance remains extremely poor when compared to previous seasons.

After debuting on Netflix with its first season on March 30, 2024, Kapil Sharma returned with season 4 on December 20 last year. However, it appears that the comedian has failed to hold on to his viewership, with the show slipping even when it comes to the last season. In fact, the first episode of the latest season will perhaps have some of the worst viewership data despite having an international star like Priyanka Chopra.

The Priyanka Chopra season opener failed to make it to Netflix’s global top 10 list. According to Netflix data, the show did not feature in the global top 10 during its release week. The only Indian show to make it to the global top 10 list at the time was Kunal Kemmu’s Single Papa, which secured the sixth spot.

In its second week, The Great Indian Kapil Show finally entered the global top 10, but only at the eighth position. The episode registered around 1.7 million global views, with a maximum average runtime of 2 minutes and 16 seconds. The second-week episode, which featured the Indian women’s cricket team, was watched for a total of 39 lakh hours worldwide. However, in its third week—when Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday appeared on the show to promote their film Tu Meri Main Tera—Kapil’s show once again failed to make it to the global top 10 list.

In effect, across its first three weeks on Netflix, The Great Indian Kapil Show season 4 managed to secure a global top 10 position only once, and that too for the episode featuring the Indian women’s cricket team. The presence of stars like Priyanka Chopra, Kartik Aaryan, and Ananya Panday also failed to turn the show into one of Netflix’s most-watched titles globally.

While the global performance remained underwhelming, the show fared better on Netflix India’s list of most-watched shows. The Great Indian Kapil Show stayed on the Indian top 10 list for three consecutive weeks, securing the second position each time, right behind Stranger Things 5.

According to Ormax Media, the fourth season’s premiere episode featuring Priyanka Chopra recorded a viewership of 1.5 million in India. In its second week, with the Indian women’s cricket team as guests, the show garnered 2.3 million views. The third-week episode featuring Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday drew 2.1 million views in the country.
