Authorities say flooding in eastern Germany is under control and the dikes along the Oder River are holding.

Brandenburg state spokesman Wolfgang Brandt says officials are on alert as the waters level was expected to remain high for several days.

Brandt said Friday that the crest of the flood reached the border town of Ratzdorf overnight and was expected to continue down river, reaching the city of Frankfurt an der Oder within 24 hours.

Germany invested some euro220 million 270 million in renovating the dikes along the Oder in the past decade, after record flooding in 1997.
