Chennai completely safe: AITA

A day after Lleyton Hewitt voiced apprehensions over Australias next Davis Cup tie in India due to security concerns,the All India Tennis Association insisted that Chennai,the most likely venue for the Asia/Oceania tie from May 8-10,was completely safe.

The Chennai Open was organised there in January and the city has hosted so many international players,even after the 26/11 attacks in Mumbai,so its a completely safe place. We will write to the International Tennis Federation and tell them that. We are likely to hear from them by Monday, said an AITA official,speaking to The Sunday Express.

The Melbourne Herald Sun had reported the former world No 1,who recently underwent hip surgery, as saying he was worried about security after the recent attacks on Sri Lankan cricketers in Lahore.

Tennis Australia will consult the International Tennis Federation and a string of Australian federal agencies before deciding if John Fitzgeralds team will contest the tie. The Philippines have already asked for their own Davis Cup tie in Pakistan to be shifted out.
