Members of the Trinamool Congress, BJP and Shiv Sena today disrupted the pre-lunch session of the Rajya Sabha over the Singur land controversy and Mamata Banerjee8217;s fast.
As the Zero Hour began, Trinamool MP Dinesh Trivedi supported by senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj and a few Shiv Sena members demanded that the Singur land and Mamata8217;s deteriorating health condition be taken up for discussion.
Shouting slogans against what they called the Left Front Government8217;s apathy towards farmers, Opposition members also said they were worried about Mamata as her fast against the 8220;forceful transfer of farm land8221; to Tata Motors in Singur entered the ninth day today.
Deputy Chairman K Rahman Khan8217;s pleas that Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was considering the Zero Hour notice given by them were drowned in the cacophony of the slogans8212;8220;land for Tatas and police baton for farmers8221;. The House was adjourned for 15 minutes.
The moment the House reassembled, the same scene was repeated. As the pandemonium continued, the Chair asked members to submit their Supplementaries without reading them and the House was then adjourned for lunch with the promise from the Opposition that the House will be allowed to run post-lunch.
